I think pet ownership, as it is in popular culture, is an entirely selfish endeavor; if someone isn't caring for an animal that already exists out of the goodness of their heart, then that animal as a pet just exists to be owned by them. Not being home a lot is a big reason I don't want pets. DarkCloudParent. ADMIN MOD. Follow up on reporting fake service dog. Science / Laws. I posted the other day about a fake service dog in retail. I recorded it, confronted the pathetic handler, was told to screw off and I wrote to corporate. I got a positive response from the retailer regretting that their policy wasn’t followed. There are people who cared more about the dog who walked in on the man, rather than the man who committed suicide and was suffering through depression! These same people are likely to call themselves "empaths" (I scoff at this word these days because of pet-nutters who have corrupted its meaning). Seriously, for God's sake, why are pet freaks ...Dogs are like a religion to some people. Whenever someone invalidates a dog’s personhood, they take it as a very personal attack. They insist dogs are family because their dog is their family, and the implication that they aren’t someone else’s family just sends them into an existential crisis, so they insist that their priorities need to be everyone …Totally agreed. I think one of the biggest issues of pet culture is how people think animals are deeper than they really are. A dog can't help you get out of depression. A cat can't give you advise. A parrot can't understand fix your anxieties. Animals don't comprehend any of these major human issues. That either means you need to do it yourself or you need to put serious effort into finding a good new home. It's unfortunate that you made the decision to get that cat in the first place but it doesn't absolve you of moral responsibility. Fortunately, moving forward you will know not to get another pet. 2. r/petfree.Welcome to r/petfree! Please read this before commenting. User Flairs are mandatory for participation in r/petfree. Dogs don't belong stuck in your car, stuck alone in your home bored and alone, etc. They don't love their animals at all. If they did they wouldn't treat them like they do.
